A captivating portrait of Allalinhorn, in the Mischabels massif. The mountain dominates the valley of Saas Fee, in the Swiss Alps. Allalinhorn summits is one of the Alps' most easily climbed peaks, at over 4,000 meters. Yet the dramatic intensity of this black-and-white photograph makes it seem inaccessible. In my work, I elevate mountains to the status of legends. By choosing the right angle and the right moment, I capture their incredible grandeur.As a mountain photographer, I immortalize summits when the atmosphere changes. When the storm recedes, when the clouds disperse, revealing transfigured rock faces. When the elements collide to give life to another, marvelous and ephemeral reality. When nature adorns the rock with pure snow, sparkling with beauty under the first rays of the sun. See the sumptuous folds in the white mantle of Allalinhorn. Between light and shadow, the verticality of the mountain is exacerbated.I did this work in the spring, during one of the rare storms of 2020. After such snowfalls, avalanches multiply. Man has no place in this scene. The only trace of his existence is a cross at the summit on Allalinhorn. Contemplating it brings back memories for those of you lucky enough to have climbed it. Subjected to these exceptional conditions, the mountain has returned for a time to its wild state. Dangerous, it is all the more attractive. A fatal and bewitching beauty. But you have to resist the siren's song. Stay away from her, contemplate her from afar. For nature spares us nothing. I bring you this photograph. So let your gaze guide you to that other world we can't reach. This striking and mysterious photograph features the Aiguille de Bionnassay in the heart of the Mont-Blanc massif in the French Alps. The wind howls across its storm-tossed ridges. Our journey continues to the Dôme du Goûter. Then our gaze is caught by the peak of Mont Maudit, which, in the distance, pierces valiantly through the sky.In creating this work, I wanted to convey the infinite grandeur of the mountains under the fire of the elements. These summits have become inaccessible, confronted by the violence of the winds and the weight of the snowfalls. I love the abstract beauty of the painting. The summits are aligned and superimposed. Our gaze is caught by the sequence of pyramidal shapes, generous curves and sharp points. Nature redraws a landscape that only seasoned viewers will recognize.This photograph is my story. Memory of those painful moments that mark you forever. It was June 2014. This was the day I was to make my first ascent of Mont Blanc. With my Belgian rope-mates, we crossed the Dômes de Miage, with a determined step and an enthusiastic soul. We slept in the Durier refuge at the foot of the Aiguille de Bionnassay. The next day, we were to climb the Aiguille, continue to the Dôme du Goûter and reach the mythical summit of Mont Blanc. But in the early hours of the morning, the weather took a turn for the worse. The rock was covered with a thick layer of fresh snow, and climbing conditions had become difficult. So we decided to give up. The time had not come to realize our dream.
