The 4000 of Zermatt
The Ballet des summits
About the work
Seen from the west, the Matterhorn reveals its least known yet most aesthetic profile. There is no easy way to reach this viewpoint, no ski lift, no village nearby. Rough and solitary, the mountain distances itself from our world. Each of the summits on this panorama is a jewel that has to be earned. To reach such altitudes, a first day's approach is necessary. Only on the second day can the encounter take place. The Tête Blanche, the The Dent d'HérensCastor, Dufourspitze, Nordend and of course the Matterhorn display their infinite presence in the heart of the wild Alps. This is what I love so much about this work. The beauty of a celestial universe, pure and intense, where nature reigns supreme.
In creating this work, I wanted to highlight the alignment of summits. I waited for the conditions I hold so dear to my heart to come together: the gentle interplay of light and shadow, the snow freshly deposited by the storm on the rock faces and the elegant dance of the last clouds between the summits. In this almost unreal picture, the softness of the contrasts sublimates the disproportionate power of the highest Alpine summits .
