Titan of Light

This black-and-white photograph pays tribute to the Aletschhorn and its magnificent hanging glaciers. The mountain, culminating at 4184 meters in the Swiss Alps, gave its name to Europe's largest glacier. This portrait highlights the mountain's incredibly vertical south face, and the ridges that guide us to summit, between earth and sky.

This is how the mountain looks from the canton of Valais. The south face of the Aletschhorn can be seen from the valleys of Zermatt and Saas Fee, as well as from the Furka and Nufenen passes. This colossus stands alone above the glaciers that surround it: the Grosser Aletschfirn, the Grosser Aletschgletscher, the Mittelaletschgletscher, which appears here at the foot of the mountain, and the Oberaletschgletscher.

This gigantic summit inspires me. I love the multitude of its shapes, which reveal themselves like so many personalities. Here, it appears like an impassable pyramid. But when viewed from the top station of the Jungfraujoch, it resembles an ice monster. I love the jagged south-east ridge that leads to its summit. Admire also the splendor of its hanging glaciers, which adorn it in the most beautiful finery. And what can we say about its regal stature, supported by geometrical shapes that only nature has the secret to. I was lucky enough to be there after a snowstorm. When the sea of clouds suddenly revealed the summit of the Aletschhorn. When the first rays of sunlight illuminate its snow-covered flanks. A unique moment that I'm happy to share with you. Like an invitation to a journey through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the Alps.
