About the work
Breathtaking view of the Imperial Crown from Zinal, in the heart of the Valais Alps. This black-and-white photograph brings together the five summits that make up this incredible fortress at over 4,000 metres altitude. In the foreground, the Weisshorn presents its hanging glaciers, a priceless treasure whose splendor will soon be a thing of the past. Stunned by the beauty of the snow-covered north face, we join the Zinalrothorn and Ober Gabelhorn before reaching the Matterhorn and the The Dent d'Hérens.
I painted this picture after a summer storm. The first rays of sunlight were illuminating the Alps. I sought the perfect alignment of the mountains to highlight the presence of summits and the exceptional scale of the Imperial Crown of Zinal. Playing with perspective and geometry to bring depth to the picture. The length of the cast shadows and the texture of the fresh snow on the rocks add a royal and bewitching dimension to the photograph. Between light and shadow, our gaze is guided from summit to summit towards the Matterhorn, lord of the valley of Zermatt, which sits enthroned at the center of the scene.
The work reminds us of our great ascents. I've been lucky enough to climb all these legendary mountains. Facing the Weisshorn, which rises in the foreground, I think back to the day I crossed it via its northern ridge, which winds to the right. I crossed the Grand Gendarme, the key passage of the ascent, before traversing the final section of the ridge leading to summit. Looking at it like this, the ridge seems very welcoming. But after many hours of climbing and the effect of altitude, it turns out to be much steeper and longer than we had imagined. After catching my breath at the summit of the Weisshorn, it was time to take the normal route back down to the left. I was exhausted. But I knew that the energy the mountain had taken from me on the way up, it would give back to me on the way down. With each step, my lungs filled up with a little more oxygen and I regained my strength. The adventure was tough, but wonderful and unforgettable.

As former inhabitants of Zermatt, it's hard to forget the Matterhorn, even in a new environment of mountains and nature.we discovered this large photo of the Matterhorn in a gallery, so strong and intense, it was impossible to forget it........ It became obvious that it should adorn our new apartment as a centerpiece.What's more, we had a very sympathetic contact with the artist, who came himself to deliver his work.It's very appreciable and adds a dimension to the object, to know its creator, his passion, the conditions under which it was taken.The texture of the photo resembles a painting, the lights play on it, Next the hours. We were bowled over!
My wife and I are amazed at the quality of print and the rendering of this magnificent photo. We had waited many years to put a picture on this blank wall because we had never "flashed" on a piece of art. Now we've found it, and it fits in perfectly at the entrance to our apartment.
