Matterhorn and Obergabelhorn
Meeting of the Giants
About the work
This work is the fruit of a veritable geometric and artistic search . The perfect alignment of the planes lends depth to the photograph and presence to the Matterhorn. The interplay of light and shadow endows the picture with exceptional graphic quality. Nurtured by the precision of the lines and the intensity of the palette, the work enjoys a perfect balance. That day, at that precise moment, I met the mountain at its most beautiful. Pure and grandiose, a diamond in the rough in the middle of the sky, this is how I admire it and how I like to photograph it.
When I take a portrait of a mountain, my primary aim is to convey its intense beauty, which never ceases to thrill me and tirelessly drives my art. But my photographs also bear poignant witness. Of a wounded nature condemned to transform itself in order to survive. A beauty that suffers in silence. The Alps are among the worst victims of global warming. Every year, their glaciers shrink before disappearing. Snow is becoming rarer, giving way to rock even at high altitudes. Beyond the aesthetic ambition of my work, it becomes a legacy, a window through which future generations can discover the mountains as we have loved them.
