About the work
From the village, our gaze wanders over this mighty pyramid. The light, filtered through the mist, caresses the flanks of the Besso , revealing the texture of its dark rock, studded with immaculate slabs. The clouds still cling to the lower slopes, as if to delay the moment when the mountain will fully reveal itself. In this silent setting, time seems suspended.
I like to photograph the Besso for its unique presence. This summit doesn't need to compete with neighboring giants to assert its character. It dominates its domain with discretion, but also with a quiet strength that commands respect. On this particular day, the contrasts between snow and stone, shadow and light, created a picture of rare intensity.
The beginning of summer at altitude is a special time: residual snow meets bare rock, and the mountain still hesitates between two seasons. Besso, for its part, seems frozen in this in-between time, offering the eye a vision of both winter and summer.
This portrait is a tribute to this transition, to the ephemeral beauty that never repeats itself in the same way. It also bears witness to the deep bond between Zinal and its iconic summit .
