Castor and Pollux
Zermatt's legendary twins
About the work
These two mountains, legendary sons of Zeus in Greek mythology, watch over the border between Switzerland and Italy. Their silhouettes, so close yet so distinct, respond to each other. The slender Castor is distinguished by its tapering ridge and regular slopes. The stockier Pollux imposes its mass and more tormented relief. Together, they form a unique duo.
I have a special bond with these summits : they were among the first peaks I had the pleasure of climbing. Seeing them again, under the snow, awakens memories of climbs, roped parties and friendships. Photographing Castor et Pollux also means capturing a part of my mountaineering history.
That day, the storm had given way to a clear sky. The soft, low-angled light enveloped the two summits, revealing every nuance, every texture. It was a moment of pure harmony, when the elements seemed to have come together to create a perfect face for these mythical mountains.
