about the work
Fulgurance of The Matterhorn between two storms. This striking black-and-white photograph of the Matterhorn takes us to the foot of the mountain, in the heart of the Valais Alps. The Hörnli ridge guides our gaze between light and shadow to its summit. The Solvay hut can be seen in the high-resolution image. Further down, the Hörnlihütte is also visible. This venerable ridge was the first to be conquered by man in 1865.I took this portrait of the Matterhorn at sunrise. The day before, the fury of the elements had battered the mountain, covering it in snow and sweeping away its rocks. In the early hours of the morning, summit exposes its immaculate face to the first rays of the sun. A giant reveals its renewed splendour to the world. Admire the sumptuous textures that make up its eastern face. The rocks of the north face, in shadow, breathe again after facing the violence of the winds. The absolute whiteness of its southern ridge offers powerful contrasts, cutting through the sky with incredible clarity. On its route, Picco Muzio, whose rocks are usually visible, is completely whitewashed. Frost took over the mountain for a few hours, revealing a new face of the Matterhorn, undisputed lord of the Zermatt valley.
A moment of eternity, yet so fleeting. A moment between two disturbances. Holding my breath, I enjoy the spectacle and immortalize it for you. See this lenticular cloud slowly forming at summit on the Matterhorn. I love it when this phenomenon occurs. A rare gift of nature, it offers inspiring shapes and nourishes my art. With emotion and intensity. With beauty and grandeur. Losing ourselves in its meanders, we suddenly discover evocative shapes. A dragon spitting flames of mist, a bird with outstretched wings. Fruit of our imagination and prelude to our dreams. I've waited so long for this moment. When the combination of elements magnifies the mountain. Giving this photograph its uniqueness and my art its flame.
