Matterhorn and Dent d'Hérens
celestial duo
About the work
The Matterhorn, on the left, unfurls its iconic silhouette, the perfect pyramid that the whole world instantly recognizes. Culminating at 4478 metres above sea level, it imposes itself with sovereign elegance. Its west face, less photographed than its east face facing Zermatt, reveals all its complexity here. The rock strata and blade-sharp edges tell us all about the tormented history of its formation. Its sharp point pierces the sky with assurance, as if it had always reigned over this high-altitude kingdom. Alongside it, the Dent d'Hérens reveals itself. Less famous perhaps, but no less impressive at 4,173 metres. The face we're contemplating is sculpted by the glaciers that cling to its flanks. Sparkling seracs and gaping crevasses draw a subtle ermine coat over its dark rock. Where the Matterhorn is elegance, the Dent d'Hérens is power.
Black and white photography sublimates this majestic duo. Freed from color, the photograph reveals the essential: textures, volumes, contrasts. Light caresses the faces, shapes the reliefs, accentuates the deep shadows that hollow out the corridors and ridges. The Matterhorn and the Dent d'Hérens are not just natural monuments, they are the guardians of our collective memory, impassive witnesses to our dreams of altitude and surpassing ourselves.
