Matterhorn
King of the Alps behind theArolla glaciers
About the work
The glaciers in the foreground unfurl their immaculate surface. Clouds rise, skim the slopes, cling to the edges. The atmosphere vibrates, transforming every second into a new vision. Light illuminates the face, then recedes, revealing a grandiose austerity. The mountain breathes, constantly metamorphosing.
The Matterhorn never appears in the same way. Here, it dominates the landscape with striking intensity. The shadows accentuate its verticality, the snow underlines the purity of its lines. Its legendary profile immediately catches the eye, fascinates the soul and imposes silence.
This mountain has always embodied the grandeur of the Alps: absolute beauty, extreme demands. It attracts climbers, inspires artists and amazes those who contemplate it. In this majestic painting, behind the glaciers ofArolla, it appears different, almost unreal. Close yet elusive, it retains its legendary aura intact.
To photograph the Matterhorn is to attempt to freeze the inaccessible. It's about capturing a moment of grace in the midst of the elements, when the mountain agrees to reveal itself. In this black and white work, I want to capture this unique moment: the king of the Alps, draped in clouds, illuminated by a fleeting light, sovereign and timeless.
