Matterhorn - Ober - Dent d'Hérens
About the work
On this August 31, 2020, the snow illuminates the wild pyramids. All whitewashed and pure, the mountains seem to hark back to a century ago, when their ice sparkled permanently. The Swiss Alps are infused with a breath of fresh air. I like to photograph the high mountains when time seems to stand still, when they show their power in a storm. These conditions are becoming increasingly rare. I appreciate the perfect alignment of these three peaks, shining like diamonds in nature. These jewels are caressed by a soft, ephemeral light that sublimates their features.
These mountains only reveal their purity a few days a year, when summer light illuminates the north faces after a snowstorm. On this particular day, the perfect conditions revealed themselves to me for just a few minutes, before the sun began to melt the freshly-laid snow. Nature undergoes a metamorphosis, and I am the humble witness observing this breathtaking spectacle. So that the world may forever remember the true soul of the mountains.
