Grand Combin and Tournelon Blanc
the giants of Verbier
About the work
On this particular day, winter was in full force. The winds had carved the slopes, pressed the snow against the rock and polished the glacier to a crystalline sheen. The soft but incisive post-storm light revealed every detail: the faults, the breaks, the harmonious curves of these two mountains. In the silence, all that remained was the discreet whisper of the wind, as if to remind us of the power of the hours gone by.
To photograph this scene was to capture the rare moment when the mountain, soothed after the turmoil, shows itself in all its splendor. The Tournelon Blanc, in the foreground, naturally guides the eye towards the Grand Combin, which rises beyond, sovereign and untouchable. Between them, a subtle play of light and shadow traces a line of force, an almost intimate link between these two giants.
I love these moments when the mountain is reborn from the storms, when each summit seems cleansed of all impurity, offered to the eye like a perfect work of art. It's in this ephemeral light that the most beautiful faces of the Alps are revealed - faces that I strive to capture to preserve their memory.
