Imperial Crown
The Harmony of the Pyramids
About the work
This black-and-white work reveals a spectacular vision of the Valais Alps, where four iconic giants - Dent Blanche, Weisshorn, Zinalrothorn and Ober Gabelhorn - rise majestically from the freshly snow-covered ground. Frozen in a rare moment of autumnal equilibrium, these mountains impose their grandeur in a striking choreography of light and shadow.
In the foreground, the Dent Blanche rises proudly, immediately catching the eye with its clean lines and imposing stature. Behind it, the Weisshorn displays a haughty elegance, its pointed summit defying the sky. The Zinalrothorn and Ober Gabelhorn, each with their chiselled ridges, harmoniously complete this "Imperial Crown", a famous chain of Alpine summits culminating at over 4000 metres.
The subtle play of autumnal light accentuates the graphic contrasts in this photograph. Perfectly defined edges create powerful, rhythmic lines, inviting the eye to travel from one summit to the next. This superimposition of pyramidal shapes generates a captivating visual harmony, where each summit is gradually revealed in all its splendour.
Between clouds and glaciers, this image tells an Alpine story, that of a mythical land where mountaineers come to experience extraordinary adventures. Here, the eye wavers between contemplation and daydreaming, fascinated by the balance between stability and movement perceptible in the textures and shades of gray that run through the work.
Taken from the edge of the sky, this photograph is distinguished by its remarkable graphic intensity, capturing both the solemn permanence and subtle impermanence of the Alpine mountains. A visual journey that expresses the timeless, mystical beauty of the Valais Alps.
