The Dent d'Hérens
above the glaciers
About the work
All is still and pure. The cold has smoothed the edges and frozen every detail. And the light, so soft, so clear, caresses the slope. It reveals the verticality, highlights the textures, draws the shadows without ever forcing the line.
The Dent d'Hérens, sister of the Matterhorn, reigns by its very presence, by the perfect balance of its lines, by the restrained power that inspires respect. Between the Val d'Hérens and the Italian border, it keeps watch. Watching. Waiting.
In this photograph, I've sought the suspended moment. The moment when the mountain no longer struggles against the elements, but unites with them. The wind had fallen silent. And in the silence, the Dent d'Hérens revealed itself - without drama, without glamour. Simply beautiful.
I love this black and white photograph for its restraint. It doesn't try to impress. It breathes, it inhabits space with serenity. And all I had to do was listen and frame.
