The Dent d'Hérens
rebirth after the storm
About the work
The Dent d'Hérens has always fascinated me with its imposing stature. The north face, sculpted by glaciers and time, is breathtakingly beautiful. The north face rises with a striking verticality, revealing the natural architecture that attracts mountaineers from all over the world.
When light unites with snow, rock and wind, nature offers us the most beautiful of spectacles. I love the pure beauty of this photograph. Works of art always reveal a part of ourselves when they arouse our emotions. For me, this photograph reminds me of the day I climbed the Dent d'Hérens with Vivian Bruchez. It was one of my first high-mountain outings.
I created this panoramic photograph of the Dent d'Hérens as a tribute to its history. Every year, its hanging glaciers melt more and more. I watch them, helpless, give way to bare rock. Until the day when the mountain once known as the Dent Blanche will be tinted only by the grey of its rock. As a powerless witness to the unfolding drama, I gather his testimony through photography.
