The Dent d'Hérens
guardian of the Alps
About the work
The mountain is plastered with snow. Its edges glisten, its face is draped in white, its flanks illuminated by subtle shadows. The wind sweeps across the summit, carrying with it light wisps of air.
Dent d'Hérens rarely reveals itself like this. Usually fierce, it is now adorned with light and purity. Its sharp profile dominates, reminding climbers of the challenges it imposes, and dreamers of the fascination it inspires. It embodies the duality that inhabits the high mountains: inaccessible and attractive, dangerous and splendid.
From the Col du Théodule, I contemplate this unique scene. The silence is disturbed only by the wind. The snow rises, the sun slips through the gaps. The mountain breathes, alive and sovereign.
In this black and white work, I immortalize the appearance of the Dent d'Hérens after the storm. An untouched mountain, sculpted by winter, embodying the absolute beauty and timeless strength of the Alps.
