Dents de Morcles
Sentinels in the mist
About the work
The Grande Dent de Morcles, at 2,969 meters, stands like a bastion of rock. Its outpost position at the northern end of the Valais Alps gives it a singular majesty. If you feel like reaching the summit, you'll discover a landscape that stretches as far as the eye can see: the Dents du Midi and the Chablais, the Vaud Pre-Alps, the Muverans and the peaks of the Valais, with Mont Blanc on the horizon completing this grandiose panorama.
That day, the clouds were slowly breaking, giving the massif a dramatic atmosphere. The ochre rock, warmed by the last rays of the sun, contrasted with the vaporous clouds rising from the valleys. In this shifting Light, the mountain seemed alive, breathing with the wind, mysterious and elusive.
To photograph the Dents de Morcles is to capture the essence of a summit that links the alpine world to the human world. It's about freezing the moment when the harshness of the rock meets the softness of the light to create a work of art that is both wild and elegant. This portrait is a tribute to the timeless strength of these peaks, sentinels of the Rhône and guardians of the Valais.
