Grands Charmoz
encounter with the moon
About the work
I particularly like the almost ghostly dimension that the moonlight lends to this alpine tableau. The stone lacework of the Grands Charmoz emerges from the clouds like natural Gothic cathedrals reaching for the heavens. Their spires, carved by millennia of erosion and the repeated assaults of the elements, stand out against the tormented sky.
This photographic work is the fruit of a long wait and meticulous preparation. For months, I studied the weather conditions to find the perfect alignment. After all, the high mountains in winter only reveal their full beauty a few times a year. And on those precious days, I have to be there to offer you the most beautiful gift nature has given me.
I love the interplay of light and shadow that tells the age-old story of these granite summits . Each fault, sculpted by freezing and thawing, bears witness to the slow breathing of our planet. Through this work, I perceive the grandeur and fragility of our Alpine world. These eternal mountains, yet so vulnerable to climate change, are inexorably transforming their face of ice and snow.
