Gspaltenhorn
Immaculate bastion of the BerneseOberland
About the work
Located to the east of Blüemlisalp, the Gspaltenhorn has a singular aura. Its face rises like a wall, impressive and almost impregnable. Yet there is an elegant route to its summit : a magnificent and demanding ridge run that starts at the Gspaltenhornhütte. From here, climbers ascend to the Bütlassesattel pass before setting off for the summit. But the rock, crumbly in places, is a constant reminder of the fragility of these giants and the humility required to climb them.
On this particular day, the storm had transformed the Gspaltenhorn into an ephemeral work of art. Snow clung to every crack, outlining the contours of its rocky bastions. The clouds, still present, mingled with the mountain's flanks, creating a dramatic, almost mystical atmosphere. To photograph such a moment is to bear witness to the power of the elements and the majesty of a summit that reveals itself at its most beautiful only a few days a year.
The Gspaltenhorn, with its verticality and fierce allure, embodies the mountain at its most authentic: pure beauty, latent danger and the promise of adventure. In this black-and-white portrait, it appears as a timeless colossus, frozen between light and shadow, guardian of the BerneseOberland .
