about the work
Every region of the Alps has its own mythical summits . That we love to contemplate, whose beauty fills us with wonder. This magnificent black-and-white photograph features the Gummfluh, which rises to an altitude of 2457 meters in the Vaud Pre-Alps, on the border between the cantons of Vaud and Bern. This imposing mountain is the emblem of the village of Rougemont, located in the Riviera-Pays-d'Enhaut district. It is also the symbol of Gstaad. It was from this famous ski resort that I took this portrait of the Gummfluh. In the foreground are the Gstaad slopes and the Videmanette ski lifts. In winter, the mountains impose themselves on us, majestic and striking. When the cold falls at medium altitude. When the roaring storms fade away, revealing summits. As the freshly snow-covered mountains soak up the sun. Then we are faced with beauty, pure and absolute. In the space of a breath, the mountain takes us beyond the world. The time of a snapshot, that photography prolongs for eternity.
The storm drew new, abstract and inspiring textures on the Gummfluh rock. Revealing another face of the mountain. I love the lines that sculpt the picture. They exude a graphic power that endows the work with a real dynamic. One shot follows another, one valley follows another, adding depth to the photograph. Between light and shadow, the mountain guides our gaze towards a window opening onto the sky. Sailing along the horizon, we catch a glimpse of the Pointe Percée, its sharp peak towering into the sky. 74 km separate the two mountains, whose grandeur makes us dream. Venerable Gummfluh dominates Gstaad as it captures the hearts of men.
