La Ruinette
Guardian of the Val de Bagnes
About the work
On this particular day, conditions were perfect. Its face, draped in fresh snow, was decked out in a luminous mantle. Every vertical line was sharply defined. The wind, still brisk, swept across the summit and carried away a few scattered clouds, as if the mountain itself were blowing them away to preserve the purity of its profile.
La Ruinette offers a unique panorama to those who reach its summit via the routes leading from the Cabane des Dix or the Cabane de Chanrion. But for those who take the time to contemplate it from the valleys, it already presents itself as a natural work of art sculpted over centuries.
In this black and white photograph, I wanted to highlight the intensity of this suspended moment. The light struck the face like a silver brush, revealing every relief, every nuance between shadow and radiance. The mountain seemed alive, breathing through the clouds it pushed back with its invisible breath.
La Ruinette, proud and silent, embodies the beauty of the Valais in its purest form. In this majestic portrait, she is discreet but sovereign, whose quiet strength never ceases to inspire me.
