The Dents du Midi
Crown of rock and ice
About the work
Observe the duality between gentleness and violence that emanates from it. The snowy curves on the flanks contrast with the sharp edges that seem intent on lacerating the sky. I've tried to translate this dialogue into my black-and-white work, where the deep shadows of the rock contrast with the dazzling whiteness of the high-altitude snow.
I've always been inspired by this wall of rock and the power of its sharp points. To capture its grandeur, I waited for the elements to enter into a symbiotic relationship. Nature has its mysteries. And to have the chance to be present when she reveals her beauty, I listen to her. At the foot of the mountain when the storm roars. Under the fury of the winds, my soul vibrates to the sound of the mountain. The many disappointments that come from waiting give even more flavor to my rare victories.
Observe the natural geometry of these mountains - the perfect balance between verticality and horizontality, mass and lightness. The ridge lines are like a musical score, with each summit representing a different note in an alpine symphony. As I contemplate this image, I hope to share with you the sense of fulfillment and wonder I feel in front of this lacework of stone and ice, a masterpiece of nature that never ceases to inspire me.
