Emerging from the clouds like a divine apparition, the Matterhorn's east face rises here in a spellbinding atmosphere. Seen from the Trockener Steg region, the summit is revealed at the end of a day of bad weather, when at last the mist agrees to part. Its emblematic pyramid, sculpted by the centuries, towers majestically.

That day, the winds had swept through the valleys, drowning the landscape in a sea of clouds. The sky seemed intent on concealing the eastern face of the Matterhorn, jealous of its brilliance.
