Mönch
the purity of heights
About the work
On this winter's day, the sea of clouds had taken over the valleys. Here and there, the most beautiful giants of the BerneseOberland rose from its silvery waves. While the Mönch shone in the foreground, the silhouettes of the Schreckhorn, Lauteraarhorn and Wetterhorn emerged on the horizon. The spectacle was grandiose: the play of light and shadow, the fleeting alternation between the opacity of the mist and the brilliance of the rising sun.
I still have a Powerful memory of that moment. The wind had just died down, giving the mountain a chance to breathe. Its blanket of snow shimmered like an immaculate fabric. I contemplated the Mönch in an atmosphere of total silence, overwhelmed by such grandeur and serenity.
This photograph bears witness to the majesty of the Mönch, but also to the ephemeral power of the moment. Because in the high mountains, nothing is ever set in stone: clouds can engulf everything, the wind can sweep away fresh snow, and brilliance can disappear in seconds. For me, capturing these fleeting moments is a mission: to preserve the memory of the Alps, to pass on their sovereign beauty, to reveal their timeless soul.
