Mount Blanc
Emergence
About the work
This vision has obsessed me for decades. Waiting for the perfect moment when the storm subsides, when the sea of clouds engulfs the valleys to leave only the essentials to emerge: these 4,000-meter giants that defy eternity. On the right, the Peuterey ridge deploys its sentinels: the Aiguille Noire, the dames anglaises , the white needle and the great corner pillar. So many names that resonate like a litany of exploits.
The balance of this work fascinates me. From shadow to light, the contrast reveals the dizzying depth of the landscape. These mountains are home to the most formidable climbs in the massif. We can see the royal route winding through Bionnassay and the Dôme du Goûter. To the right, Mont Maudit and Mont Blanc du Tacul complete this geography of possibilities.
In this single photograph, all the access routes to Mont Blanc are outlined. All the ambitions, all the hopes. A dreamlike and inspiring vision, this sunrise after the storm captures the very soul of these Alps that I love to photograph so much. The emergence of the massif from the Italian side reveals its most secret, most authentic side.
