about the work
Celestial journey at summit of the famous Mont-Blanc massif, in the French Alps. By plunging our eyes into this superb panoramic photograph, we sail from the Aiguille du Midi to the legendary Mont Blanc by the three-mountain route, flying for the occasion over the Mont Blanc du Tacul and the Mont Maudit. On the right, the Goûter dome marks another route to the royal and exhilarating Mont Blanc. This work will thrill the mountaineers who have made this magnificent ridge run as well as the lovers of the high mountains and the valley of Chamonix. When I made this painting, I was on board a helicopter flying over Chamonix. A winter storm had just hit summits and the clouds were impassable. Until they parted. We were able to slip through the cloud barrier to reach the realm above. The sky was ours. What incredible luck! A wonderful world was unfolding before our astonished eyes, much to my delight. The highest summits of the Alps, freshly snowed, were reborn with the sun. They seemed to float on a sea of clouds like islands in the middle of the ocean.
I particularly like the long beauty of the Aiguille du Midi ridge. The majestic diagonal that leads us royally to summit of Mont Blanc, at more than 4800 meters of altitude. The dynamics guide us beyond time in an infinite world that, from the ground, we do not suspect. I chose this angle of view because it emphasizes the immensity of the massif. A beauty that words struggle to transcribe but that the image makes us live. With strength and emotion.
