Valais Mountains

I took this beautiful black-and-white panoramic photograph by helicopter. From the heights of Mont Blanc de Cheilon, the view is breathtaking over the mountains of the Valais Alps. Our gaze travels through the successive valleys, which, from this angle, overlap one another. From the Val d'Hérens, we reach val d’Anniviers and then the valleys of Zermatt and Saas Fee. The most beautiful peaks in the Valais are revealed before our eyes. At the center of the picture, the Aiguille de la Tsa offers its crests to the first rays of the sun. To its right, the magnificent Dent Blanche rises like a sugar loaf defying the sky. In the background, our steps lead us to the ridge of the Imperial Crown of Zinal. Crossing Bishorn, the Weisshorn, Schalihorn, the Zinalrothorn andObergabelhorn, we reach the Täschhorn and, on the far right,Alphubel.

I studied this vantage point for a long time before going there, as a summer storm had just sprinkled the mountain. The first saving snows after a hot, particularly dry summer. See how open the glaciers are and how deep the crevasses. Just covered with snow, they become traps for anyone trying to cross them.
