Matterhorn and Monte Rosa
The Lords of the Valais
About the work
In the foreground, the Matterhorn's west face stands out, vertiginous and determined. Less well known than its northern face, it nevertheless reveals all its majesty from this vantage point. Its flank seems to spring from the glacier like a prow splitting the ocean. From here, you can contemplate the beauty of the Zmutt and Lion ridges. In the low-angled light, the mountain becomes a sculpture. On the horizon, the Mont-Rose massif unfurls its glacial wall. The Dufourspitze, Switzerland's highest summit , stands alongside the Nordend. These giants of the Valais seem to answer to the Matterhorn.
That day, the winds had just died down. The sky was opening up after the storm. The whiteness of the glaciers illuminated the scene with a striking purity, offering my gaze the rare spectacle of perfect harmony. I wanted to capture this moment of balance, this fragile breath where nature suspends time. This black-and-white painting is an invitation to travel. Between the immensity of Monte Rosa and the verticality of the Matterhorn, the beauty of the Alps is revealed in its purest essence: timeless, grandiose, absolute.
