Ober Gabelhorn
legendary north face
About the work
It was here that Salvan-born freerider Jérémie Heitz wrote a memorable page in alpine history. In his film La Liste (2016), he dared to climb this vertiginous face at full speed, offering the world an unforgettable spectacle. Since then, the north face of theObergabelhorn has become a symbol, both of human achievement and of the grandeur of the Alps.
When I took this black-and-white photograph, the clouds were dancing around the summit, creating a dramatic atmosphere. TheObergabelhorn was partially revealed above the ridge in the foreground. The immaculate slopes and tapering ridge create a grandiose picture. The snow, devoid of any human trace, emphasizes the lines of the mountain.
To photograph this slope is to pay homage to a mountain that both fascinates and intimidates. TheObergabelhorn is not just a summit : it's a legend. Its unmistakable triangular profile is an irresistible eye-catcher, nurturing the dreams of extreme mountaineers and skiers.
Through this black-and-white portrait, I wanted to immortalize this unique aura: that of a summit that embodies raw strength and fragile beauty, eternity and the moment. TheObergabelhorn, a member of the Imperial Crown of Zinal, reveals itself here in all its majestic, elusive splendor.
