Ober Gabelhorn
mystery
About the work
The mountain unveiled itself slowly, as if jealous of its mystery. Between the shifting mists, the snowy lines appeared in fragments, then faded, then were reborn in a new clarity. The light slid down its flanks, softening the roughness of the rock and revealing a more secret, almost fragile beauty.
TheObergabelhorn is one of the jewels in Zinal's Imperial Crown. Its silhouette attracts climbers as much as it intimidates them. On this particular day, however, there was no question of feats of strength or extreme verticality, as the conditions did not lend themselves to them. The mountain presented itself differently: more discreet, more enigmatic.
By framing this slope, I wanted to convey this feeling of revelation. As if the mountains were reminding us that every moment holds something unexpected. That beyond the landscapes we think we know, there is always a new vision, a look to be reinvented.
In this black-and-white work, theObergabelhorn becomes a mystery. Snow and mist paint an evanescent portrait, suspended between light and shadow. A mountain less conquered at the time, but just as fascinating. A summit that, even when hidden, asserts its grandeur.
