Pine treeArolla
grace and elegance
About the work
I love its gentle curve, its stretched summit , its gracefully descending lines. On this particular day, conditions were ideal. Hazy light, a lightly overcast sky, and above all, perfect snow cover. The mountain was smooth and white.
This picture is one of my rare color photographs. And if I've chosen not to use black and white here, it's to let the subtlety of the tones speak for themselves. The shades of bluish-grey in the shadows, the softness of the sky, the light contrast between fresh snow and rocky strata - all these tell a story that no other palette could convey.
I remember being struck by the purity of the scene. The wind had cleaned the slopes, the snow had clung to the edges, shaping the forms with incredible precision. There were no tracks, not a sound. Just the mountain, untouched.
The Pigne d'Arolla, in this image, is not spectacular. It's calm. Serene. It speaks to us of silence, clarity, balance. And in its simplicity, it touches something essential.
