about the work
The Täschhorn culminates at 4491m above the Saas-Fee valley. It is one of the mythical summits of more than 4000m of the Mishabel massif which marks the border with Zermatt. This picture was taken on the side of Zermatt in autumn, early in the morning, from the air, after some snowfall; it allows to observe the sharp ridge leading to the Dom (4545m), the highest summit entirely in Switzerland. In the background, one can see, from left to right, the Dirruhorn (4034m), the Höbarghorn (4141m) and the Stecknadelhorn (4239m).
With the fresh snow, the light that illuminates the face of the Täschhorn is reflected in the glaciers located in the shade below. And, with this specific shot, the summit looks like a mountain straight from the Himalayas. The play of colors leaves room for the imagination, some rocks look like ebony, the gray and white of the glaciers generate dreamlike shapes. The dreamers will find in this picture more than a mass of rocks and ice, but infinite poetic possibilities.
This mountain has attracted many famous mountaineers and skiers, for better or worse. The famous Patrick Berhault unfortunately died at the age of 46 on the famous ridge leading to the Dom in 2004, during his attempt of the 82 summits of 4000m in winter. When asked about his friend, his lifelong brother, Patrick Edlinger said of Berhault that he should have known to say no and given up trying to do a 4000m a day - he's a jerk, and I miss that jerk! he said in a trembling voice, with a tear in his eye... and the elite skiers Paul Bonhomme and Vivan Bruchez opened in 2021, with joy and laughter, a new route called X in the face: 950m of steep descent.
The Täschhorn, like many mountains in the Alps, reminds man of his smallness and fragility.
