About the work
I'd been waiting for this moment for fifteen years. Fifteen years of observing, watching for the perfect light, hoping to see this mythical summit revealed in all its majesty. The Weisshorn doesn't come easily. It demands patience, perseverance and respect. More than once, I've returned empty-handed, the clouds having chosen to keep their secret.
But on this day, everything lined up. While the veil of mist still enveloped the mountain, a gap opened up. Light and wind struck the summit, revealing the purity of its snow and the strength of its edges. It was a new face, fiery and ephemeral, that would last only a few minutes before disappearing into the evening shadows.
To photograph the Weisshorn in these conditions is to capture much more than a summit. It's to capture a moment of pure grace, where the elements, light and time combine to offer you the most beautiful of spectacles. This portrait embodies my quest: to pay homage to giants over 4,000 metres tall, to immortalize their soul and convey the emotion we feel when facing them.
