Weissmies
quiet and massive
About the work
The normal route, visible here, traces a clear line along the ridge. It guides the eye to the summit, all curves, all softness. It's a welcoming mountain, inviting you to climb as much as to contemplate.
That day, the sea of clouds filled the valleys. It formed a motionless ocean beneath the summits. Above, all was silence. Fresh snow covered every nook and cranny, smoothing shapes and softening contours. I waited for the light to align itself, to caress the slope, to reveal without dazzling.
The Weissmies have always touched me with their simplicity. It doesn't have the arrogance of the great north faces, nor the vertigo of the steep faces. But it has that natural elegance, that serenity that invites elevation. It's a summit that you look at like you breathe - slowly, deeply.
In this photograph of the Weissmies, I wanted to capture this feeling. That of a calm summit , a possible path, a mountain open to the sky. The Weissmies reminds us that greatness can also be experienced gently.
