There are days when the Alps are adorned with a light so pure that it erases all clutter. From the heights of Zinal , I witnessed this suspended moment. Observe this magnificent photograph. The Besso , on the right, raises its sharp silhouette like a dark arrow, while the Zinalrothorn, in the background, is half hidden in the mist. Beneath them, the glacier stretches. The light unfolds there without resistance. It softens the reliefs, smooths the crevasses, thus revealing the poetry of the forms born of the cold. It is no longer just a landscape: it is a living and moving architecture. The Besso contrasts with this harmony. Black rock, frank, rough. It imposes itself as the guardian of this scene. It is it that anchors the image, that offers a point of gravity to the gaze. Its double form—hence its name, “The Twin” in patoi—intrigues. The Zinalrothorn, for its part, fades into the light. It does not dominate: it watches. Its glacier flows slowly. We sense, behind this apparent tranquility, the power of the seasons and the metamorphosis of the landscape.
