The Zinalrothorn
Alpine crystal
About the work
A splendid portrait of the Zinalrothorn, also known as the red horn of Zinal, whose name evokes the scarlet hues that this emblematic mountain sometimes takes on at dusk. Proudly dominating the val d’Anniviers in the Valais Alps, its north face rises with authority.
I captured this photograph from the Val d'Anniviers after an initial snowfall that covered the rock faces. Patient and attentive to the whims of the wind, I waited for the sky to finally free itself from the persistent clouds. Suddenly, the Zinalrothorn was revealed in an exceptional light. Powerful contrasts highlight the refined texture of the snow deposited on the seracs. What an immense privilege to have been able to contemplate this moment! A unique moment that I've only experienced once, despite my many passionate observations of this extraordinary mountain. Every time I look at it, my mind wanders off into the heights. Culminating at 4222 meters, it makes us dream of future ascents.
This photograph, taken in autumn, is one of the works that motivates me to continue my art in the high mountains. It symbolizes the perpetual quest for rare light and sublime contrasts that nature reveals after chaos. Immortalizing these fleeting moments, when the Alpine landscape briefly glows before melting back into immensity, is at the heart of my work. In this way, I bear witness with passion and wonder to the fascinating splendor of the summits.
