Breithorn, Nesthorn, Strahlhorn
Trio above the clouds
About the work
This sea of clouds transforms the landscape into a celestial archipelago, isolating these summits from the world below. Our gaze travels between these colossi, captivated by this exceptional geography where borders fade in the face of raw beauty. Bern's Nesthorn converses with the Valais' Strahlhorn in this Alpine symphony.
Among the giants, the Breithorn is the most accessible ascent. The climb to the Klein Matterhorn takes us to an altitude of 3,820 metres. From there, it's just 300 metres to the summit the Breithorn. But the effort is still considerable, because at altitude, the lack of oxygen is quickly felt, and every step requires energy.
I captured this photograph after a snowstorm. The freshly-whitened faces appear at their most seductive, radiant and fascinating. Time seems suspended, giving the mountains a sense of eternity. The light, both intense and soft, enlivens the image, adding texture and depth. This photograph captures the spirit of these lofty summits, silent guardians of a vertical world where beauty is born of the harmony between rock, ice and sky.
