Pizzo Badile and Pizzo Cengalo
Colossi of the Bregaglia Valley
About the work
That day, the wind had calmed and the post-storm light had become sharp. The atmosphere was limpid, almost unreal. The two summits appeared as if sculpted from crystal. Our gaze froze on the north face of Pizzo Badile. It doesn't just impress: it captures, it elevates, it dominates.
I've always been fascinated by the geometric purity of this mountain. Pizzo Badile, with its sword-straight ridge and steep face, seems to defy the laws of balance. Next to it, Pizzo Cengalo plays a different role: more massive, more tormented, it displays a more raw energy. It's the contrast between these two architectures that makes this panorama so Powerful. The fresh snow softens the relief without betraying its ruggedness. It emphasizes lines, accentuates volumes and reveals deep shadows. In this icy face-to-face, everything becomes legible. Verticality, momentum, grandeur. I stand back, a mere witness to this natural work of art, and frame, slowly, so as not to disrupt the harmony.
This photograph is a tribute to the mountains that fascinate without giving themselves away. To those whose beauty is born of a constant tension between equilibrium and abyss. The Val Bregaglia, too often forgotten, conceals such treasures: austere, proud, untamed. I invite you to lose yourself in this scenery. To follow the lines, to plunge into the shadows, to pull yourself up, if only in thought, to this vertical north face.
