Matterhorn
the breath
About the work
To the left, the east face unfolds, majestic and mysterious at the same time. Clouds cling to it, then blow away as if blown by the mountain itself. It's like watching the Matterhorn breathe, expelling a Powerful breath into the sky. To the right, the famous, more intimidating North Face is revealed. It has always fascinated mountaineers, drawn by its icy slopes and sheer walls. Between these two faces, the Hörnli ridge traces its line, a mythical route to the summit climbed by generations of mountaineers in search of the absolute.
That day, the light played with the mountain, highlighting the ridges, caressing the shadows, sublimating its textures. Every moment transformed the scene: sometimes draped in mist, sometimes glowing in the sunlight, the mountain was in a constant state of metamorphosis. All I had to do in the face of this spectacle was contemplate, breathe and release the shutter, to fix this fleeting moment in eternity.
The Matterhorn is not just a summit. It is a legend, a muse, a living monument. In this black-and-white portrait, I wanted to capture its breath, its mystery and its grandeur. Because photographing the Matterhorn always tells a story that's bigger than itself: that of the eternal beauty of the Alps and our quest for the infinite.
