North face Matterhorn
King of the Alps
About the work
The air is Light, the atmosphere crystalline. I stop, I breathe, I wait for the light to settle. The Besso beckons the eye, then the ridge winds its way up, joins theObergabelhorn and, with a burst of speed, deposits us on the north face of the Matterhorn. Everything aligns: volumes, shapes, shadows. I take out my camera. The moment freezes.
I love the grandeur of the Matterhorn in this photograph. Far from the familiar perspectives of Zermatt, its north face reveals more of its character: verticality, immensity, power. The Besso accompanies it like a brother, theObergabelhorn responds to it, and together they compose a grandiose, luminous triad.
Through this black-and-white photograph, I wanted to retain the essential: the purity of the lines, the contrasts, the sovereign allure of the Matterhorn. This work is neither a tale of achievement nor a demonstration; it's a pause. A face-to-face encounter between us and the mountain, where momentum and doubt, clarity and shadow, meet. Contemplating this painting, I rediscover what has always attracted me: the call of the summits.
