Winter Light in the face of Dents du Midi

Here we are on the border between France and Switzerland, in the heart of the Alps. In the foreground, in the hollow of the valley, is the village of Châtel and its ski area, the Portes du Soleil, a famous resort in the French Alps.
In the background are the famous Dents du Midi, a Swiss massif made up of seven 3000-meter-high summits , shaped like sharp teeth ready to devour the sky. The verticality of their north face is breathtaking.
On the right, several summits of the Mont-Blanc massif emerge, including Aiguille Verte, Droites, Courtes and Chardonnet.
Finally, on the left, we see Grand Combin, located in Switzerland, and its three summits over 4000 metres high.

I took this photograph in winter, when the fog was giving way to the first rays of sunshine.
The beauty of the clouds caressing the ridges to the gentle rhythm of a light wind lends a velvety effect to the whole.
The winter light doesn't reach the north face of the mountains, condemned to remain in shadow for several more months.

I chose to highlight this monumental and fascinating panorama because it is not visible from the village chalets. It thus allows their occupants to imagine the mysterious beauty of the heights that dominate them.
The painting is also interesting because it illustrates the interweaving of French and Swiss territories, in the heart of a landscape where borders naturally intermingle to form the Alpine universe that so overwhelms us.
