Dent Blanche and Grand Cornier
gold from the heights
About the work
I love the poetry that emanates from this work. The natural symmetry of the shapes, the elegance of the edges, the perpetual ballet of the clouds around the peaks. Everything in this scene invites contemplation. The Dent Blanche and the Grand Cornier dance at the edge of the stars, celebrating the immensity of the Alps in unison. The high mountains are revealed here in all their paradoxical splendor - at once evanescent in their veil of mist and immortal in their mineral presence. It's this fleeting moment, when the clouds part to let in the sun's rays, that I wanted to immortalize. These privileged moments when the summits reveal their absolute beauty are also the most bewitching. But this seductive beauty also hides its implacable nature. The Dent Blanche, that "monstrous coquette" as Guy de Maupassant called it, and the Grand Cornier hold us in awe, reminding us that their conquest never comes without a price. Faced with their grandeur, I invite you to dream of future ascents. One day, perhaps, we'll tread these venerable peaks.
