The Dent d'Hérens
Vertigo on the Glacier
About the work
This work is a departure from my usual approach. I've chosen to retain a few subtle shades of color rather than my traditional black and white. These bluish hues, silvery grays and whites tell a story that the monochrome style could not have captured with the same accuracy. They reveal the fragility of the moment, the fleeting encounter between rock, fresh snow and changing light.
The ridge that rises to the sky traces a line of purity. A boundary between two worlds, it separates shadow from light, darkness from clarity. To follow it with your eyes is to embark on a vertical journey, a contemplative ascent that takes us from earth to sky.
I immortalized this portrait of the Dent d'Hérens like a moment of grace. At once fleeting and eternal, it reminds us that the mountain is never the same twice, that it constantly reinvents itself before our astonished eyes. And it is precisely in this perpetual metamorphosis that the magic of the Alps lies.
