Bosses ridge
echo of the giants
About the work
That day, I felt an almost spiritual communion with the mountain. The clouds danced around the ridge, enveloping Mont Blanc in a palpable mystery. They seemed to both caress and challenge the ridge. I chose black and white to transcend physical reality and bring you my intimate perception of the high mountains: their power, their solitude, their timelessness. Through my lens, I sought to capture the dialogue between the nebulous masses of clouds, almost menacing in their density, and the immaculate whiteness of the snowy slopes. This dance between light and shadow sculpts volumes, reveals textures and gives the picture that dizzying depth that moves me so.
Snow, under my gaze, is never mere matter, but becomes language. I like to observe how each curve tells the story of the impetuous winds that shape these heights. Smooth surfaces contrast with sharp edges, testifying to the meteorological vagaries that reign supreme at these altitudes. The Vallot refuge itself, a tiny speck of humanity in this immensity, always reminds me of the fragility of our presence in the face of alpine grandeur.
Feel the silence in this work. Through the mere interplay of values and textures, I've tried to convey the almost supernatural stillness that belongs only to the high mountains. A silence known only to those who have trodden these eternal snows. A silence that nonetheless resonates with incredible force in my photographic soul.
I wanted to show the Arête des Bosses in its naked truth, stripped of the colors that might distract our perception. In this purity that I have sought, I invite you to make a contemplative ascent, to feel rather than simply see. My ambition is to transform this place of passage into a space of meditation, this access route into a path of initiation. Above and beyond the technical performance, I wanted to reveal the secret soul of Mont Blanc, this age-old presence which, in its mineral silence, nevertheless speaks to me so eloquently.
