Matterhorn - Thyndall
soul of rock
About the work
I waited a long time for the moment when the clouds, like capricious veils, would reveal and then conceal the contours of this giant. In this dance between rock and sky, the Matterhorn appears to me more alive than ever, breathing and pulsating under the assaults of the high-altitude winds. Its dark rock, dotted with patches of snow, creates a striking contrast. In black and white, the mountain reveals its true soul, stripped of chromatic artifice. The Matterhorn is no longer just a mountain; it becomes a symbol, a presence, an entity. This work takes me back to the intense sensations I experienced on my mountaineering trips. The emptiness, the bite of the cold, the communion with the essential.
In this composition bordering on abstraction, I've sought the quintessential dialogue between the permanence of rock and the transience of clouds. Tyndall Peak and Lion's Ridge stand out like a frontier between two worlds: the tangible world of unchanging stone, and the evanescent world of mist and sky. An invitation to contemplate the eternal struggle between solidity and impalpability, between anchorage and elevation.
