Celestial crossing at summit of the Matterhorn, jewel of the Valais Alps. In this beautiful black-and-white photograph, the summit of the Matterhorn appears like a point defying the sky, asserting to the world its inordinate grandeur. Opposite us, the Furggen ridge marks the border between Switzerland and Italy. To the right, the vertiginous Hörnli ridge leads us up the mountain's summit via the Solvay bivouac. On the left, the Lion ridge leads up to Pic Tyndall.

I took this magnificent portrait of the Matterhorn as it was reborn, more majestic than ever, at sunrise. After battling the fury of the winds all night, its freshly-whitened walls are now exposed to the sun. Admire the splendour of the rock revealed by the snow. The beauty of its walls, like so many facets of its personality. Its slope is gleaming and gigantic. Its south face is marked by numerous ridges, like so many facets of its history now revealed. A thousand-year-old splendor that is constantly evolving with the winds and the seasons.

I've always dreamed of immortalizing the Matterhorn in this way. Lord of the Alps, rising alone above the clouds. Like an island of salvation in the middle of an ocean of mist. In the spring of 2023, the elements have come together to make this ideal a reality. Produced in high resolution, the work is brimming with detail. Our gaze is drawn in, fascinated by such power. Every day, summit reveals a new part of itself. This photograph of the Matterhorn is the fulfillment of a dream, just as its ascent will take you to the end of yourself. A fabulous journey between earth and sky, to meet the most beautiful mountain in the world.
