Matterhorn
winter glow
About the work
That day, the mountain seemed reborn. Heavy, persistent clouds still covered the lower valley. But above, winter light illuminated the eastern face, transforming rock and snow into a work sculpted by light.
The mountain is imposing in its verticality and moving in its contrasts. Deep shadows and flashes of light intertwine, giving the summit an almost mystical presence. The Matterhorn is as famous for its beauty as for its dangers. Its Hörnli ridge attracts crowds, but its history is one of drama and heroic triumph. Contemplating it like this, detached from the world and shrouded in mist, it appears invulnerable, as if out of time.
I love this moment when the Matterhorn seems to float. Its snowy armor reflects the light, its perfect lines inspiring infinite admiration. In this black and white photograph, I wanted to pay homage to the Matterhorn as it appears to man: majestic, indomitable, eternal. Winter offers it its most beautiful finery, and I, as a photographer of the Alps, can only bow before such grandeur.
