About the work
Journey between light and shadow to summit the Eiger, one of the most famous mountains in the Alps. This mythical summit rises to 3967 metres in the bernese alps. This black-and-white photograph highlights its Mittellegi ridge, which oscillates between earth and sky, separating light from darkness. A magnificent crossing I'd like to make one summer. In the foreground, the Eiger North Face reveals its implacable verticality. How many mountaineers have perished trying to climb it! This dark slope is one of the most difficult to climb in the Alps.
The surrounding mountains are hidden by mist, giving the Eiger plenty of time to assert its omnipotence. Like an echo echoing through the skies, the Jungfrau, Mönch and Aletschhorn reveal their mysterious silhouettes. To the right, on the horizon, Mont Blanc watches over the Eiger. The mountains gaze at each other, each rich in history and more beautiful than ever. Mont Blanc inspires dreamers to reach the roof of Europe. While the Eiger inspires the most valiant mountaineers, eager to take on the ogre.
I took this portrait of the Eiger in the spring of 2020, when the snow had just covered its rocks. We were bowled over!
My wife and I are amazed at the quality of print and the rendering of this magnificent photo. We had waited many years to put a picture on this blank wall because we had never "flashed" on a piece of art. Now we've found it, and it fits in perfectly at the entrance to our apartment. What's more, it depicts 3 summits that are particularly close to our hearts: the Weisshorn, Dent Blanche and the Matterhorn - quite a symbol...
