The Matterhorn
Celestial Pyramid
About the work
Before our dazzled eyes, it unfurls its famous North Face, one of the most difficult climbs in the Alps. Guiding our gaze into the heart of the photograph, the Hörnli ridge soars up to the Matterhorn's summit . The only traces of man in this immensity, we can barely make out the Hörnli refuge built at its foot and the Solvay bivouac perched on the ridge at over 4,000 metres. To the right of the work, the curves of the Zmutt ridge form the hindquarters of an ancient creature. The sphinx of Zermatt, the Matterhorn in majesty. Thanks to the benefits of ultra-high definition, our gaze travels through the breathtaking details of a mountain at the apotheosis of its art.
At the foot of the Matterhorn, we contemplate its gigantic, magnificent glacier. Its deepening gaping crevasses are a sign of its inevitable decline. Nature's tragedy as time warms, but a photographer's treasure who never tires of the beauty of its lines. As I admire its pearly splendor, I'm reminded of its fragility. Without its ice pedestal, what would the Matterhorn become? Will this colossus lose its strength? Will it still be able to withstand the fury of the elements?
The Matterhorn thrilled me at first sight, and will continue to inspire me for the rest of my life. Every moment, it is transformed. Each of our encounters is different. As the wind's emissary and the artist's muse, I photograph him like the most fervent of his admirers.
