A masterly portrait of the North Ridge of the Weisshorn, on the border between the Zermatt valley and val d’Anniviers. In this vertical black-and-white photograph, the ridge sparkles at sunrise. At an altitude of 4506 metres, the Weisshorn is the highest summit in the Imperial Crown of Zinal, in the Swiss Alps. Its summit offers a breathtaking view of the entire Alps. And wherever you are in Switzerland, you can see it. This giant of rock and ice looms over the horizon like a ship from another world. In the shadows, its legendary precipice plunges towards val d’Anniviers, while in the background rises the Monte Rosa massif.

The north ridge of the Weisshorn is undergoing a complete metamorphosis. And I thought it would remain forever covered in eternal snow. Those days are gone. When I traversed it in 2022, boulders were appearing along the way, making the ascent more difficult. I'm happy to have immortalized this jewel of the Alps before it changed completely. And I hope it will continue to make us dream, whatever its future face.

I took this photograph to highlight the beauty of this ridge, listed as one of the most beautiful ridge climbs in the Alps. I set off to meet it at daybreak. So that the sharp light would highlight the aesthetics of its trajectory. A perfect line cutting through the mountain between earth and sky. Reaching summit on the Weisshorn and its monumental cross is the result of a fabulous adventure. The fruit of a struggle with ourselves that pushes us to surpass ourselves. A journey to search the essential, like a plunge into the heart of the self.
